A Study on the Friction Properties of PEEK Composite Materials with High Load and Wear Resistance

Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) resin is a special engineering plastic with excellent performance, which has more significant advantages compared to other special engineering plastics. It has high temperature resistance of 260 degrees Celsius, excellent mechanical properties, good self-lubrication, chemical corrosion resistance, flame retardant, peel resistance, wear resistance, resistance to strong nitric acid, concentrated sulfuric acid, radiation resistance, and super strong mechanical properties, which can be used in high-end machinery, nuclear engineering, aviation and other technologies. However, the complex synthesis process, high cost, and high friction coefficient of PEEK resin limit its further application.

Engineer Wang and others from Zhuzhou Times New Materials Technology Co., Ltd. studied the preparation of PEEK composite materials using PEEK as the matrix and adding different reinforcement materials. They explored the mechanical and frictional properties of the composite materials formed by different molding and preparation processes, types of reinforcement materials, and compositions, and improved their application range.

The PEEK friction performance simulation test is mainly completed using the MMW-1A microcomputer controlled universal friction and wear testing machine (referred to as the pin disc friction machine in the text) produced by Jinan Yihua Tribology Testing Technology Co., Ltd. The reference standard is ASTM G99-04, and the test conditions are: small stop ring friction pair, test force 625N, test speed 100r/min, and test time 2h.
